Learn about mitochondria and skin in Roisin’s paper

posted in: Scientific Papers 0

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) damage increases in our skin cells as we age.  MtDNA can be damaged by internal and external stressors, either directly or indirectly. Indirect damage occurs through increased cellular stress, and as a result induces many of the classic signs of ageing skin. Mitochondria’s role in skin ageing is complex, as mitochondria have multiple functions in our cells. Our research group has a strong focus on mitochondrial dysfunction in skin cells, and are working hard to discover exact impact this has on skin ageing.

Last year Roisin published a paper about Mitochondria’s Role in Skin Ageing, click here to read the full paper and find out more!
